FOTD: Fyrinnae Carnival Girl

Okey an entirely unoriginal title but hey, nevermind. I got a  little bored during my day off today so I decided to play around with some make up and came up with this. Obviously, this is not an everyday look, but more a high fashion/facepainting inspired look that came out of playing around.

And here's what I used (if you really want to know what a particular colour in this look is ask me and I'll try to work it out, but as most of it's blended and mized up, I'm not going to bother telling you what's where!)

Base:
Lily Lolo Mineral Foundation in Porcelain

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
Superdrug Mua Eyedust in 4 (just as a general base to give some depth - I did another layer of Pixie Epoxy and then layered everything over this so you probably won't actually be able to see this colour at all!
No 17 Va Va Voom Mascara in Black
Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Zero

Fyrinnae Greens/Golds/Oranges:
Arcane Magic: Leopord Print Galaxy
Aztec Gold
Dressed to Kill
Dragonskin
Polar Bear
We're All Mad Here
Arcane Magic: Pyromantic Erotica

Fyrinnae Blues/Purples:
Arcane Magic: Futuristic Glam Rock
Sleepy Hollow
Android Angel
Arcane Magic: Sequined Master
Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat

Lips:
Fyrinnae Lip Lustre - Ultra Phantom
Fyrinnae Lip Lustre - Ghostly Voice

A thought about Fyrinnae

Many of you will know that I have a lot of love for the Fyrinnae guys - their stuff convinced me that colourful make up was fun again and I frequently lust over beautiful things on their site. I also follow them on twitter and blogger and therefore know that they work obscenely hard. Their fan base has massively increased over the past couple of months and therefore their average number of orders per week has zoomed up.

That's why it came as no surprise when I heard that they were going to do a little price increase - I mean, most companies have had to eek up the prices a little recently (we are at the end of a recession if you rememember) and many indie companies have really been hit hard by the financial climate over the last year or two.

As it is, they're only planning on changing the prices a teeny tiny bit (I'd understand all the fuss if they were hiking up samples to $3, but they're not) and actually, they're planning on increasing sample sizes and on stopping the limit on how many samples you can order.

And yet, I've been seeing and hearing so much whining and bitching and just general horribleness about this. Stop it. Seriously, ladies (and guys), just stop it. These guys work hard, they sacrifice so much to provide excellent products and excellent service. Bullying them because they're trying to make their business financially viable is shocking.

Apologies if this post offends you. I just hate to see a good company dragged down by people with nothing better to do than moan and whine.

(Not so recent) Fyrinnae Haul

I think it's about a gazillion years since I got this haul, but it came when my camera wasn't sans XD card! However, my XD card finaly arrived (and I almost sobbed with joy), so now I can share my Fyrinnae prettiness with you all. All pictures were taken in natural daylight and all swatches were dry and unprimed (It was a bit of a hellish swatching day ... everytime I used Pixie Epoxy the pictures came out weird, but I might end up adding some Epoxied swatches later on)

(L-R Row 1 Nonsense!, Delvian, Beholder, Fall from Grace
Row 2 Treacle Well, Ravens & Writing Desks, Rapunzel had Extensions, Banana Mochi, Chaotic Evil*
Row 3 Android Angel, Looking Glass, +20 Beautification, Curiouser and Curiouser, Adam and Steve's)

(If you click on the hand pictures, you'll get taken to a massive version of my hand but you'll also see the colours slightly better)
I think my favourites from this haul are Curiouser and Curiouser (such a gorgeous blue!) and Banana Mochi, but they're all lovely!

Have you ever tried Fyrinnae? If you have, what did you most recent haul from them include?

*Chaotic Evil was sent as a free sample with my order, all other shadows were paid for with my own pennies :D

FOTD: Spectrum

No, not ZX Spectrum silly, colour spectrum! I was chatting to a friend of mine who reads my blog and he was asking what I'm gonna do next and it reminded me that it's a while since I've done a FOTD post... mainly because I hate taking pictures with my webcam :( The colours just don't look right and you can't quite see the detail.

Anyway, here's a colour spectrum inspired FOTD from today :) (Also I apologise for the fact that I have this mad bit of hair sticking up at the back ... I'm having a Harry Potter hair day aka a day of hair that won't do what it's told)

Green Wing aka The Anti Valentines FOTD

So around this time of year there seems to be a lot of pretty delicate first date looks. This is not one of those looks. This is a look of deep and dramatic greens using two of my favourite Fyrinnae colours - Dragonskin and We're All Mad Here, and also the Arcane Magic Colour Mystic. Enjoy :) Also, it's really flipping sunny in York today which has made taking pictures an utter nightmare! This is the best I could do... stupid spring *grumbles*

Face:
Lancome Adaptive Liquid Foundation in 02 Lys Rose
Bourjois Blus in 95 Rose de Jaspe (apples of my cheeks)
Lancome Blush Subtil in Bronze Glow(hollow of my cheeks for a bit of contouring)
Benefit Dandelion (quick sweep across my cheekbones to brighten it all up)
Benefit High Beam (two dots on apples of cheeks and blended with fingers)

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy (lid and lower lashline)
Fyrinnae Dragonskin all over lid + outer 1/4 of lower lashline (short flat blending brush + very thin eyeliner brush)
Fyrinnae We're All Mad Here inner 1/3 blended over Dragonskin +lower lashline (normal blending brush + very thin eyeliner brush)
Fyrinnae Arcane Magic: Mystic crease, outer 1/3 of upper lashline and winged out (thinner normal eyeshadow brush and contour/shader brush for blending)
Sleek Storm Palette Colour 2 (2nd in on top line) brow bone and blended in (contour/shader brush)
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Pencils in Zero tightliner on upper waterline and upper lashline going out to wing (blended with mini angled liner brush)

 Lips:
Lips:
Benefit Her Glossiness in Who Are You Wearing (bright pink)

And some shots to show how gorgeously complex Fyrinnae colours really are (and to show you how much better my blending is!!*proud*)

See how the light has made my skin look a bizarre orangey shade in the first two eye shots?! Odd. Anyway, I'll finish this blog with a question for you dear reader - these are my current favourite Fyrinnae eyeshadows, what are yours? And if you've not used Fyrinnae yet, why not tell me what your other favourite eyeshadows are at the moment? :)

Fyrinnae Swatches + cheeky little Fyrinnae bright eye look

As I mentioned in a post yesterday, one of the companies who got me back into the realms of fun make up are the ever wonderful Fyrinnae who I discovered via the Lush Forum. Fyrinnae make gorgeous, cruelty free make up and their eyeshadows are to die for. Below are swatches from my first ever haul from them (all swatched dry over Pixie Epoxy):
The bottom two of the third row from the left are Samhain Spirits and Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat (I've just realised that they're not really that readable - sorry!). My favourites are probably We're All Mad Here (beautiful sparkly acid green), Stormbringer (from the Arcane Magic Collection - a gorgeous blue grey which this photo doesn't quite do justice!) and Dragonwing (the perfect deep green in my opinion). All have amazing colour payoff and I find that I get very little fallout. These are beautifully complex colours that really need to be seen in the flesh to be really enjoyed :)

These retail for $1.75 for samples to $5.95 for the full size 3g pot. Samples come in little plastic pots and range from 1/8 (for Arcane Magics) to 1/4 of a teaspoon (for normal eyeshadows). Delivery is $3.50 for international orders under $20 and free for those over $20 (and trust me, that's really not hard to acheive!). The wonderful Fyrinnae guys were also kind enough to include a couple of samples (Polar Bear and Samhain Spirits) and they make a concious effort to choose sample colours that complement your purchase :)

As a teeny bonus, I thought I'd pop in a bright eye look I did the other day using Pixie Epoxy, We're All Mad Here and Geek Glam on the lids, Shingami on the crease and the lower lashline and a dab of Polar Bear in the inner corner. These pictures weren't really taken for blogging purposes but I figured I'd share. Looking at them now, I really wish I had the crease brush that I bought today when I did this look - it could do with just a little more blending :)

Also, Fresco Phyrra has an indie spotlight with one of the owners of Fyrinnae here.
